An Introductory Meeting on the Use of Sortition in Policy Development at the Socialist Party of Iceland

The Socialist Party of Iceland invites members to a meeting in The Tin Can Factory (Dósaverksmiðjan), at Borgartún 1 on Thursday July 13 at 8 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce members to the process used by the party in creating policy in four important areas. The development of policy will be lead by party members selected by sortition. Four groups will hand in a final policy draft to the Party’s convention this coming Fall. An news release on the policy-making process in English is here.

The meeting will feature a short presentation on why the Party’s interim board chose this method for developing policy, and will be followed by Q&A.

Refreshments will be available for a moderate price. The meeting is expected to be over by 10 pm. The location is wheelchair accessible.

Please look out for the mass emails that were sent out earlier this week concerning the Party’s member registry. Correct and updated member registration is a key condition for succesful sortition. Please let us know if you did not receive the email notification or if you need assistance!
